The Future Dance Ensemble proudly presents Velvet Rope: A Secret World of Seduction from May 30-June 2 in the Black Box Theatre at Peking University High School.
Step into a world of secrets, truth, deception, confidence and insecurity.....a world where the lights are dim, the fog is thick, and the lights glisten on the sweaty dance floor. Velvet Rope takes on a world tour of night life; from the red carpets of Tokyo to the stages of New York; with stops in Mexico, Egypt, Texas, and Berlin. Each stop on our trip features stories, music, and movement unique to the environment and culture within....yet universal in themes. Imagine a 1940s Manhattan; hosted by flapper girls and big band singers....or a 2030 Japan, at a futuristic hip hop concert. From a World War II-era Berlin to Ancient Egypt, come with me inside.............inside my velvet rope.......
Velvet Rope features a cast of 20 dancers and 13 singers, representing 12 countries. With music from Frank Sinatra, Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Elton John, Billy Joel (and so many more), and dance styles including Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Tap, Swing, Tango, and everything in between, our production is certain to delight anyone. Take a moment; take a break from the hectic city life, and enjoy a romantic evening for two (or a group of many!) and allow us to transport you from candlelight speakeasies to the shores of the Nile, and back! We have a special need, to feel that we belong....

Miracle is an evening of modern song and contemporary dance. Our international cast of 40 dancers and singers, from 13 countries and speaking over twenty languages, will take you on a mystical holiday journey across borders and cultures. In an uncertain time with natural disasters, territorial disputes and even the Mayan calendar threatening global destruction; humans the world over are clutching for a moment of peace and magic. Enter our suspension of reality, where you’ll see an inspired boy-meets-girl story in a wintry wonderland where everyone can tap dance, take part in a holiday cocktail party, and enjoy a high-kicking chorus line in our tribute to the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. Our experienced contemporary dancers will show you a battle raging between the angels in heaven, over the fate of two warring soldiers on earth. Our athletic gentlemen take on the role of Santa's Toy Soldiers; guarding the North Pole by day, melting the ice with lively hip hop by night. Our entire cast presents holidays around the world with dances from China and Poland. Before the curtain comes down, we will catch a glimpse at a young couple, separated by war at Christmas time, on the eve of a nuclear holocaust. The spirit of the holiday season unites us all in our search for happiness, and reminds us in bittersweet fashion, that the sweet things in life are just a loan. This December, come to PKU High School Black Box Theatre, and experience a Miracle...

Twilight: Beauty Between the Dark and the Light
The Future Dance Ensemble presents Twilight: Beauty Between the Dark and the Light; an evening of contemporary dance and modern song. Each day, as the sun sets and the moon rises, the moment of twilight allows us to see the world with incredible clarity; our eyes observe details all around us that are always there, but sometimes invisible. Our inspired production explores these moments in-between, using contemporary dance, the headlines of today, and the style of the American musical theatre. With material ranging from folk rock to Gaga, and jazz to Eminem, we encounter individuals meeting the “first time” in a relationship, teens struggling with depression and bullying, equality across all boundaries, letting go as we accept a fate bound by cancer, domestic violence, love, hate, and celebration. Our 31 member company presents jazz, hip hop, contemporary dance, tap, song, tango, and more, in a way that is accessible to anyone that has ever felt something. Turn off the Dark and reach for the Light…

Circus: Enter the Dark draws the curtain back on the performer in all of us. The evening deals with the social issues of love, hate, domestic violence, joy, addiction, suicide, happiness, equality, and despair...using the Circus as a metaphor for searching and longing. Working with material ranging from Bach to Lady Gaga, Lloyd Webber to Eminem, we combine jazz, hip hop, and contemporary dance in the traditional style of the American Music Theatre, mixed with the flair of the exotic Cirque, to tell our story. There’s nothing wrong with loving who you are.... (See more)
